a sensible Borough President would see which way the wind is blowing and would decide, you know what? I’m going to brag about the fact that Brooklyn is one of the best places in the entire United States of America you can come and live if you want to be able to get around by bike. If Marty lived with us here in the 21st century rather than being stuck in 1958, he would be taking credit for NYC DOT’s innovations and improvements. He’d be bouncing around shouting, “Come to Brooklyn. You can ride your bike from Park Slope to Williamsburg now. You can take your child on a bike to the new parks on our waterfront. You can bike to your job at the new offices in DUMBO. You can bike to great local restaurants where food is being grown on our rooftops in Greenpoint. Who needs Manhattan, folks? We’ve got it all here. And you don’t even need to bother with a stinking car or expensive mass transit. Blah blah blah blah. Yay Brooklyn!”

This weekend on Governors Island, Julie, owner of Adeline Adeline (aka @adelineNYC), and her family ran across another bakfiet. Then @noneck ran across @naparstek and his bakfiet. If this invasion is true, we couldn’t be happier!!!

…just saw this on the Governors Island Blog.

Not only will they start renting (the now bankrupt) Fietsfabriek Cargobikes, vis-a-via Rolling Orange, at Bike and Roll, BUT…

And who knows? Soon, we could be hosting the New York City’s first bakfiets race.

Shit! Now I need to save my pennies and buy the last one from Adeline Adeline. BUT the real question is, will it be a mother’s race or a no-holds-bars-copenhagenize run?

glamor moms or not, ole gorge bliss builds beautiful nyc bakfiets! in this must watch video, the Sean Patrick Farrell profiles (aka @SpokesNYT) one mother and her two daughters as they ride around town doing everything they would normally do on a train, in a cab or behind the wheel of a gas guzzler…

i can’t wait to see more bakfiets in nyc. over the last year alone, there’s been a proliferation of shops selling dutch bikes and other urban/city bikes. while the racing and hipster crowd bemoan their existence, i am ecstatic!
