i’m no speed demon. the extent of my exuberance extends from the top of the bridge to the bottom. other than that, i’m in the slow lane looking at the city. as an avid supporter of nyc based products, i’m quite excited to see that Hold Fast is a Brooklyn foot strap manufacture. while they cater to “freestyle” cyclist, i’m wondering if these suckers will hold up to my dress shoes and flip flops…

in new amsterdam, there’s only one way to secure your ride – “the chain.” wether it be On Guard, Kryptonite, Abus or a rinky-dinky home improvement brand chain, new amsterdam lives by the chain.

with a new ride in the family, i’m interested in a lock i don’t see too often – the folding lock from OnGuard (top) or Abus (bottom). on the whole, Abus and OnGuard look like spitting images of each other, but i’m really wondering wondering how they stack up against the chain.

according to the british bike site, bikeradar.com, the Abus folding lock has three stars and the OnGuard isn’t rated. so how do these things stack up against the chain gang?
